Dear Prime Minister,
We have an important message for you from young women. A message that no government can ignore. This country isn't working for young women right now.
When we asked them what they wanted to say to you, they told us: They can’t afford to live. They can’t find work that’s secure or fairly paid. And many say sexism, racism and harassment still shape their everyday lives, including at work.
Almost half a million young women are now NEET, the highest level in over a decade. Caring responsibilities, mental health pressures and a lack of suitable jobs are shutting them out.
At the same time, rising sexism and far-right rhetoric are making many young women feel less safe and less secure in their rights.
This is what starting out in the UK feels like for young women right now.
No government can afford to overlook this. For many young women, the outlook is bleak - they are surviving when they should be thriving. Without action, their prospects and circumstances will only further deteriorate.
These are not women who have given up. They are doing everything right, and still finding the door held shut.
You've spoken about changing the culture around how women are treated. We want that too.
Will you hear us? Will you stand with us?
Yours sincerely,
